Twenty-year-old Macauley ‘Mac’ Campbell from Romsey tragically passed away last Saturday in car crash near his home in Romsey. Mac was a member of his local rugby team, Romsey Rugby Club, where he was made ‘man of the match’ just hours before his death.

10433236_10152579608559385_7221751080896609221_nHundreds of tributes to Mac have flooded in through social media, as well as flowers left at the scene of the crash. Since, a JustGiving page has been set up in his honour, trying to raise £5,000 to cover funeral costs. So far, the page has raised over £15,000.

On top of this fantastic public effort to give Mac a respectable send off, thousands have clubbed together on Twitter, donning the hashtags #macfest2016 and #macfest, initially to get singer Craig David to perform at a festival in Mac’s honour. Since, the page (@Macfest2016) has exploded, with stars such as Craig David, Hannah Wants, Scotty T not only agreeing to contribute but also perform.

12742506_10206926530736550_4143693398334803200_nMac’s service is to be held on Thursday 17th March.

This story has stolen many people’s hearts. Not only shocked at the loss of a life so young, but also all that he has left behind. These campaigns are being backed by his girlfriend, Fleur Gollogly and his brother, Sam Campbell. The JustGiving page is still open, and the list of celebrities involved is growing constantly.
