The decorations are back in the attic, the woeful ‘gifts’ from the crackers are binned and all that’s left of the three-tonne turkey is a carcass. So, how do you go about losing that Christmas belly from the comfort of your own home?
With Christmas and New Year out of the way you’re in the clear with regard to annual occasions until Easter, giving you time to restore your body to its former glory before the chocolate induced relapse that Easter promises to bring.
Here are three simple exercises to help you boast a six-pack instead of a keg.
Be a plank
What could be easier than pretending to be a plank? Well, quite a lot actually. Holding your body off the floor using just your forearms and feet is one of the hardest exercises on the abs. However, position yourself correctly and you’ll be able to watch one of your new DVDs that you got for Christmas at the same time. Every cloud.
A classic but effective exercise for toning the abdomen. Remember that the body is very clever and will get used to repetitive exercise (thus halting progress), so mix it up with different variations to ensure you continue to become more toned. Again, no additional equipment is needed other than determination and a willingness to stick at it.
If you’re willing to surrender your dignity for a good workout then hip raises are for you. Whilst both the plank and sit-ups will tone the abdomen in general hip raises will specifically focus on the lower abdomen, helping achieve that classic ‘v’ shape.
Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day so consistency and dedication will be needed for you to work off all of those turkey-based meals.
