Black Friday this year welcomes everyone looking to grab some advantageous bargains. As we head towards the Christmas period in high speed, everyone’s looking out for discounts, special offers and deals on gifts for family, friends and of course for ourselves.
But what is Black Friday, when is it this year and what shops are getting involved? Here’s what you need to know.
Black Friday has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the United States for years, following Thanksgiving when major retailers offer promotional sales. Black Friday began in the UK in 2003 as an event hosted by Currys, a retailer that sold laptops and electronic devices. The event has now been followed by other major retailers such as Amazon, Apple, and AO retail.
This year Black Friday is on 27 November followed by Cyber Monday on 30 November. With less than a week to go, bargain hunters should get ready for a marathon shopping day in stores and online with the following retailers:
Online only. Offers a wide range of products from clothes and jewelry, to laptops and electronic devices. Amazon is also promoting a series of Lightning Deals as a welcome to Black Friday. The deals are limited for a certain period of time and can be accessed through the Amazon.co.uk deals.
In stores and online. Includes low price laptops, electronics, games, and even toys. A good tip would be to check Argos’ Facebook and Twitter social media channels to be certain of not losing any early bird deals.
In stores and online. With their legendary three for two offers, Boots will have great deals on fast approaching Black Friday including beauty, perfume, beauty electrical equipment and baby products.
In stores and online. The best Currys has to offer includes TVs, home electrical equipment and kitchen deals. Currys advises its customers who like online shopping that the quietest time is between 3-4 am, if one can stay awake until that time.

Online only. Shoppers looking for bargain deals will find a range of goods such as electrical equipment, toys, and beauty products. Early bird offers will start on Monday 23 November initiating the start of eight days of great deals.
