Review of Shrek the Musical @ The Mayflower.

When I entered the Mayflower, the room was highlighted and illuminated in green lighting with a forest ambience, so before the show had even started it felt like I was right there in the swamp.

On the stage, was a huge storybook with the Shrek logo shining on the front. Then the lights went down and the huh book opened to reveal Shrek’s backstory via cleverly lined up projections.

The music was created by a live orchestra, and they didn’t drown out the actors which are sometimes an issue when seeing live shows. The entire production mimicked the first edition of Shrek perfectly and it was magical watching it come to life right in front of my eyes.

The humour and the characters, all of it was amazing and I loved the little hints and ‘digs’ at other well-known stage musicals such as Les Miserables and Wicked.

One of my favourite parts was the entire idea and portrayal of the dragon.                It looked just like the film. And the voice actor Christina Modestou had the most amazingly powerful voice.

Out of all the shows I’ve seen, this was by far the best one yet. Everything was very true to the film and just… brilliant.

I’d definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone, you have to see this musical!
