In St Marys Stadium, Southampton between 12 and 3pm on Friday 26th May, Dementia Friendly Awareness are hosting The Story So Far. The event features celebrity guest speakers, tea coffee and cake and information stalls about what has been achieved so far and what the aims are for the future.
It is hosted by Dementia Action Alliance who work to make Southampton a more dementia friendly place to live. Their aims consist of:
-Raising awareness and reducing stigma of dementia
-Create dementia friendly communities in Southampton
-Support local businesses to become more dementia aware and friendly in different areas of Southampton
Action Plan of Southampton Dementia Action Alliance:
Dementia Friend information sessions to be offered throughout the city to businesses, organisations and community groups.
Transportation throughout the city to become more dementia friendly. Southampton Dementia Action Alliance will aim to contribute towards Southampton Transport Review that is underway to ensure the needs of people with dementia, and their carers are considered.
Explore opportunities for high quality information about the dementia journey alongside local information about service, support groups and care pathways being made available to people living with dementia, their families and carers.
This plan may change and develop as the Dementia Action Alliance grows.
