Chart campaign launched for Greg Gilbert
Fans hoping to get Delays song ‘Valentine’ to Number 1 for Valentine’s Day
Keeping close to home, Delays are a Southampton based indie band. Unfortunately, their lead singer Greg Gilbert was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and has been recommended for urgent treatment which isn’t currently available on the NHS. Whilst the singer undergoes chemotherapy, a group of thoughtful fans launched the #Valentine2Number1 campaign in order to get the band’s track ‘Valentine’ to number one for Greg.
Fans are requesting as many people as possible to get involved and download the track between the dates 3rd and 9th of Feb. A Thunderclap campaign has been set up to help promote the campaign as well as an official Facebook page which provides details of how and where to download the song from.
One of the fans behind the project, Zara Woodward said “I wanted to get involved with the Valentine campaign as it’s another great way for fans to express their love for a band who mean so much to them. Greg is such a beautiful talent….and the song is epic to boot”. The song ‘Valentine’ was originally released 11 years ago and reached the Top $0, earning the band their first ever appearance on Top Of The Pops.
The #Valentine2Number1 campaign coincides with a fundraising gig at The Brook venue in Southampton which will take place on February 14th. Also called ‘Valentine’, the fundraiser features some of the city’s most popular acts, including live performances by The Novatones, Sean McGowan, Dead Rabbits and Birdpen, with popular rockers Band Of Skulls DJing throughout the night.
Tickets for the evening are priced at £10 and will contribute to the campaign helping the track reached number one for Greg Gilbert in his time of need.
