Amber Run’s latest release, Alaska EP, offers a stripped back vibe to their already mellow sound. The four-track EP features a new release, ‘Alaska’ and acoustic versions of their famous songs ‘No Answers’ and ‘Fickle Game’ are also featured on this EP.
‘No Answers’ and ‘Fickle Game’ don’t sound vastly different to their original versions, but that’s down to Amber Run’s chilled out sound. The acoustic versions, however, fit nicely into the track list of this EP, in a way that the original versions couldn’t.
The four songs on this EP compliment each other in a way that it almost feels like one continuous song. It makes for easy listening and allows it to be listened to several times in a row, which is rare.
The last track features an acoustic rendition of Jackie Wilson’s ‘(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher’. They offer a completely different spin on what was originally, a very upbeat track. What stands out about this cover is that sounds as if it could be Amber Run’s own song, which is difficult to do. Overall, the EP offers a relaxing vibe and this cover brings it to a nice close.
