An exciting new partnership between Rob da Bank, the Bestival Foundation and SoCo Music Project has paved the way for the launch of Rob da Bank’s Music Club, a new, inclusive, open-access monthly music workshop at YMCA Newtown Youth and Community Centre in Southampton. The launch of Southampton’s branch of Rob da Bank’s Music Club will take place on Friday 11th March from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.
Supported by the Bestival Foundation and Youth Music, the Music Club will offer a variety of music making activities for young people aged 13-19 to get involved in, led by professional musicians and guest artists.
Young people will have the opportunity to take part in a range of fun activities including DJ workshops, music production/music tech workshops, MCing workshops, Street dance, live music jams and beginners’ guitar. Voice FM will also be on hand for interviews and recording, meaning there really is something for everyone, no matter what your interest or ability!
We kicked off my Music Club in Eastleigh last year and got such a great response we’re bringing it back this year with a brand new home in Southampton. One of my lifetime missions is to help young people, without access to music making facilities, discover an instrument, a set of DJ decks, or a microphone for the first time… so please come down and join the party! Two lucky DJs from the Music Club will get the chance to DJ at Common People festival this coming May.
Matt Salvage, Director of SoCo Music Project says: “We’re very excited to be developing these fantastic monthly music clubs in Newtown, providing opportunities for young people to make music with professional artists to whom they aspire in a supportive and safe environment”. YMCA and Saints Foundation will have presence at the Music Club, providing support to children and young people who attend.
