Santa is flying back to Southampton later this month as part of the city’s festive celebrations.

The incredible flying Santa returns to the skies above Southampton’s city centre shopping hub at Above Bar as part of this year’s Christmas Festival.

There will be two Flying Santa shows each day, Monday to Saturday at 5pm and 7pm, and Sundays at 3pm and 5pm with each showing lasting 15 minutes each.

Alongside this, Above Bar street will also again host a traditional festive market operated by internationally renowned WELA Märkte, which will run through to Saturday 23 December.

The market will feature 40 alpine themed chalets with traditional German fayre allowing visitors to enjoy a delicious bratwurst or waffles, gingerbread hearts or even a mulled wine or cold stein of beer as well as giving people the chance to purchase a range of traditional authentic traditional hand-made gifts.

Councillor Satvir Kaur, Southampton City Council’s Cabinet member for Communities, Culture and Leisure said: “Having been voted nationally as one of the most festive cities, it’s great to see Christmas in Southampton get bigger and better every year.

“I’m particularly excited to  welcome back our flying Santa and new additions to the city such as the ice rink. I’m looking forward to enjoying the festival with residents and visitors to the city.

“Southampton is a place where something’s always happening. This event is a real family favourite, bringing in people from across the region, making Southampton the place to be, especially at Christmas.”

The celebrations kick off on Saturday 11th November at 5pm when the mayor of Southampton, Councillor Les Harris and a local hero nominated by the city’s community will turn on the Christmas lights.

Meanwhile, the markets will be open 10am to 8pm daily, with the bars staying open for a further two hours in the evening, until 10pm.
