Solent students have organised a free musical celebration of David Bowie’s songs. ‘Spirit of Bowie’ will feature performances by students from music-related degrees, members of staff and friends of Southampton Solent University- senior lecturers and The Chicken Soup Choir. They will perform all the hit tracks by David Bowie starting from the earliest songs and ending with the music from his latest albums.
The music of the artist who has inspired so many people worldwide, and shaped so many musical careers will be remembered and celebrated on the 18th of May at JM315 at 19:00-22:00. This event is organised by the SSU Music Society and will take place at Studio Solent.
“The students have been working really hard perfecting the songs to make sure it’s a fitting tribute to Bowie”
“People can expect a full night celebrating the best of Bowie songs – it’s going to be rocking!”
Esther Frake, Senior Lecturer in Popular music
“Bowie helped to shape today’s music through his invention, exploration, fashion and his art. He has left audiences with a vast treasure trove of music to discover, and so it is fitting that our final-year students dedicate their end of year show to Bowie.”
Paul Rutter, Programme Group Leader for Music
“He is the most important artist of the last 50 years. He broke barriers in music, art, identity, sexuality. He inspired a generation to embrace music and all of its possibilities and to embrace change.”
