The Cowheads

Just outside the city centre sits The Cowherds, a country pub & restaurant that inside exudes a rustic charm, with an open fire and a mismatch of cozy furniture that immediately makes you feel at home.

Whether or not you’re after cask ale, quality wine or a wholesome Sunday lunch The Cowherds is a lovely, quaint place to spend the afternoon with family or friends.

Upon arrival it took around twenty minutes to be seated but this was to be expected as it was a busy Sunday afternoon.  The menu offered a wide variety of dishes ranging from roast dinners to their vintage classics; hearty pies and fish and chips.  After ordering it took around fifteen minutes for the food to appear, and when it did we were not disappointed. A full, three-meat roast dinner with all the trimmings. Their only fall back was that, whilst being asked for additional drinks and sauces, the staff could not seem to keep up with demand from the sheer volume of customers.  It is clearly a very popular place, so this was easily forgiven.

Despite the fact that the service is a little slow at times, The Cowherds is the perfect pub to escape the city centre without leaving Southampton.

*The Cowherds are offering a special Mother’s Day set menu consisting of two courses for £15.00 and three courses for £18.50 per person.  For bookings after 6pm there’s also a complimentary glass of bubbly.
