To some Southampton can seem like a pretty boring place with not much to do, but the reason for that is because they have not taken the time to discover what Southampton really has to offer.
If you are a big theatre goer then you will love what the newly refurbished Mayflower Theatre has planned for 2014. Popular musicals such as ‘West SideStory’, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’, ‘Warhorse’ and ‘Shrek: The Musical’ will all be coming to the Mayflower. If that has perked up your ears then get onto the Mayflower site (mayflower.org.uk) and book your tickets now, they won’t last long!
The music scene is also one of the aspects of Southampton that is incredibly underrated. Venues such as ‘The Joiners’, ‘The Brook’, ‘The Talking Heads’ and of course ‘The Guildhall’ cater to a variety of talent from all around the UK and overseas.
For you Indie fans, New York based rockers ‘We Are Scientists’ will be playing at
Southampton University on the 17th of March after the release of their new EP in February. And just less than two weeks after that the popular Glasgow based rock band ‘Franz Ferdinand’, known for their tireless live performances, will be bringing life to the Guildhall on the 29th.
However, if head banging is more your style then rock down to (electric avenue)the Guildhall on January 12th where massive American metal band ‘Lamb of God’ will be kicking off their UK tour; but if you cannot make that go and catch highly regarded metal bands ‘Killswitch Engage’ & ‘Trivium’ on February 7th in the same place.
Then again if you like to run at night with glow sticks (who doesn’t?!) then on February 19th the ‘Glow in the Park’ 5 & 10 km run will be kicking off on theSouthampton Common. Its exercise with glow sticks, what more do you want?

If that’s not your style then also at the Southampton Common on July 12th the80s music festival ‘Let’s Rock Southampton!’ will be about. Bands like Billy Ocean and Bananarama will be playing… and let’s face it, 80s music is awesome. There will also be plenty of bars and food and play areas for the kids.
