With the much anticipated album on the way, Will Varley’s music is one which toes the line between poetry and music. Previous albums he has released have all had a blend of his melodic voice and musical ability. This ability is coupled with verses written from the heart which are both divisive and beautiful. ‘To Build A War’ is the first single to be released from his newest album ‘Kingsdown Sundown’ it is a slow paced lament, in which the lyrics develop through the song. This newest album threatens to be thought provoking and if following some previous releases politically motivated.
Will’s music could be seen to have similarities to ‘The Tallest Man on Earth’, ‘Frank Turner’ and ‘Passenger’. Having toured with artists such as ‘The Proclaimers’ and ‘Frank Turner’ and been played on Radio 2, he is a man on the cusp of breaking into the top of the musical hierarchy. Therefore he is definitely an artist to keep a eye upon.
What Will Varley offers which not many modern artists offers is a man who is willing to make a statement and to challenge society. Throughout the song ‘We Don’t Believe You’ he specifically targets the political establishment, and the damage with which the western world has savaged upon the other nations of the world.
You may be asking will he be playing nearby? If so you will be happy to know that he shall be playing a UK tour in the next few months. Furthermore Will shall be specifically touring a short train away in Portsmouth. The Ticket prices are set at £10 each and which is definitely worth it. Potentially in a few years time ticket prices shall be far higher. As this is a man going places!
